해외 게스트 37인이 꼽은
가장 흥미로운 한국영화 <바람난 가족>
해외 게스트들이 가장 흥미있게 본 한국 영화는 <바람난 가족>과 <살인의 추억>으로 조사됐다. 외신 기자와 PPP 관련 게스트, 감독 서른 일곱명에게 던진 “영화제 기간 가장 흥미있었던 한국 영화는 무엇인가?”란 질문에 위와 같은 대답이 나왔다.
<바람난 가족>을 꼽은 게스트는 도빌 영화제 프로그래머인 제롬 라세르, 영국 일간지 <더 인디펜던트>의 로저 클락, <더 재팬 타임즈>의 필립 브레조, 다큐멘터리 감독 나이젤 사비오사, 독일 시네마테크 라이프치히 매니저 마크 지그문트 등 모두 21명. <살인의 추억>을 꼽은 16명의 게스트는 <만경대 학생 소년 궁전>의 유니 호카넨 감독, 이탈리아의 한국 영화 전문 웹사이트 ‘cinemacoreano’의 기자 데이빗 카짜로, 로이터 통신사의 에드워드 데이비스, 주한 프랑스 대사관 멀티미디어 담당관 니꼴라 피까또 등이다.
나이젤 감독은 “<바람난 가족>은 한국 사회의 여러 터부를 건드리는 복합적인 영화다. 현대 한국 사회, 특히 가정이 품고 있는 많은 이야기를 들을 수 있어 좋았다”고 답했고, <살인의 추억>을 꼽은 니꼴라는 “한국에서 실제 일어난 사건을 다룬 이 영화는, 이야기를 풀어가는 방식에서 많은 질문과 답을 동시에 하고 있다. 감독의 연출이 탄탄해 금세 화면에 빨려 들어가게 된다”고 답했다.
3, 4위를 차지한 작품은 <봄 여름 가을 겨울 그리고 봄>과 <스캔들>. 시드니 아시아 태평양 영화제 페스티벌 디렉터인 폴 드 칼발로는 <스캔들>을 최고의 영화로 꼽으며, “애증과 배신을 다루는 대목에서 셰익스피어의 소설을 읽는 듯한 전율을 느꼈다. 세 배우의 연기는 경지에 올랐으며, 한국미가 물씬 풍기는 화면은 근래 보기 드문 코스튬 드라마의 전형을 완성하고 있다”고 평했다. 또한 그는 김기덕 감독의 <봄 여름 가을 겨울 그리고 봄>을 개인적 취향에 가장 부합하는 영화로 꼽았다. <스크린 인터내셔널>의 패트릭 프레이터도 <스캔들>과 <봄 여름…>을 최고의 영화로 칭했다.
그는 “<스캔들>은 기술적인 부분, 예를 들면 카메라 워킹 같은 촬영 기법이 눈에 띄는 영화다. 스티븐 프리어즈의 <위험한 관계>로 이미 익숙해진 소재긴 하나 감독은 전혀 새로운 드라마를 만들어냈다. 로케이션도 훌륭했다. <봄 여름…>은 김기덕이 드디어 자신의 얘기를 멈추고, 관객이 듣고 싶어하는 얘기를 꺼낸 영화”라고 선정 이유를 밝혔다. 5위에는 홍기선 감독의 <선택>이 뽑혔다.
<Good Lawyer\'s Wife> The most impressive Korean film!
<Good Lawyer\'s Wife> and <Memories of Murder> were picked as the most impressive Korean films among international guests. When 37 foreign press, PPP guests and filmmakers were asked to pick the most impressive Korean film from PIFF 2003, 21 guests, including Jerome LASSERR from Deauville Film Festival, Roger CLARKE from The Independent, Phillip BRASOR of The Japan Times, a documentary filmmaker Nigel SAVIO D'SA and Mark SIEGMUND from Cinematheque Leipzic, picked <Good Lawyer\'s Wife> and 17 guests, including director Jouni HOKKANEN of <Children\'s Palace>, David CAZZARO from Cinemacoreano.it, Edward DAVIES from Reuters and Nicolas PICCATO from Ambassade de France en Coree, picked <Memories of Murder>. SAVIO D'SA commented, "<Good Lawyer\'s Wife> is a complex film that provokes taboos of Korean society. It was interesting to see different stories of Korean society and its domestic life." PICCATO picked <Memories of Murder> for "the director's talented ability to draw the audience into the film from the very beginning. Moreover, based on a true crime that happened in Korea, the story-telling structure of the film throws both the questions and answers to the audience simultaneously." The 3rd and 4th impressive Korean films were <Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring> and <Untold Scandal>. Paul de CARVALHO from Sydney Asia Pacific Film Festival picked <Untold Scandal> to be the best film and commented, "The scene where love, hate and betrayal intermingle, made me shudder, as if I were reading a Shakespeare's novel. The performance by 3 actors were great and I really enjoyed the perfected beauty of Korean costume drama." The 5th place was <The Road Taken> by HONG Ki-seon.
